Geotechnical Investigation

Geotechnical Investigation

Offering a comprehensive range of ground investigation services, STS understand ground conditions are the key to a successful and cost-effective outcome on any development. Geotechnical Investigation comprises of two parts:

Working closely with house builders, local authorities, contractors, consultants and private individuals, we help clients to define, understand and overcome their many and varied geotechnical issues. With our experienced geotechnical engineers and geologists, we provide a comprehensive and bespoke geotechnical report including recommendations for foundation design.

The Process:

1. Scope of work tailored to the project

We will contact you regarding the location, proposed project, budget, and other important information, so that we can perform a preliminary desktop site review and/or topological survey. Once this is complete, we can recommend specific subsurface exploration techniques, unique to your project.

2. Subsurface exploration

We will collaborate with you and decide which tests are the most suitable for your project based on our preliminary tests, the budget, local laws and policies.

3. Laboratory testing of samples

We will take the samples we collected from the subsurface exploration and analyze them in an off-site lab.

4. Identify foundation loading conditions

In this step, we identify the loading foundations of the structure such as the weight that will likely be put on the site. From this information, we can decide the foundation type to be used.

5. Geotechnical report with recommendations

We will provide you with an exhaustive report containing our recommendations regarding your site, and schedule a time to sit down and discuss our options.

6. Consulting services during development

We are involved at every step of the development process in order to ensure a safe, reliable, and fluid construction.

Geotechnical Testing

Geotechnical testing is an essential part of the planning, design and construction of infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, foundations, flood management structures, clay barriers, as well as general building works.

Testing ensures the ground is suitable for what it is intended for or can help identify potential remedial works to make it fit for purpose.

Our geotechnical laboratory testing services include:

  • Sieve analysis
  • Soil classification
  • Hand Auger Boreholes
  • Moisture content
  • Plasticity index (Atterberg limits)
  • Direct shear tests
  • Permeability tests (Falling & Constant head)
  • One dimensional consolidation properties
  • Unconfined compression test
  • Triaxial test (UU, CU & CD)
  • PH Value

We also have extensive experience in Cone Penetration Testing , Pressure Meter Testing, Topographical Survey , Electrical Resistivity Tomography , Downhole Seismic Testing , Pile Testing etc.

In addition, our in-house laboratories also provide a comprehensive range of on-site and laboratory testing services across key areas covering Soil testing , Rock testing, Water testing , Concrete testing , Aggregate testing , Steel testing and Advanced testing .
